News:

Early Release - Wednesday, the 23^rd. This will be the last one of the year.

Memorial Day-No School – Monday, the 27^th.

Terms to practice:

Reading and Writing: We are practicing many strategies using stories from Theme 9 and 10. We will be choosing chapter books this week and beginning Book Clubs! We will continue to focus on Response to Literature in reading and writing by pulling together all the strategies we have learned this year to write a detailed response to books. Please see important Spelling note below.

 

Math:  Continue with: place value, tens, ones, hundreds, regrouping, vertically, carrying, sum and borrowing.   

 

Students timed drills are improving! Keep practicing Reflex math and the Math games that were sent home! We will continue our timed addition and subtraction basic facts.  Students must be able to complete 20 addition in one minute, and 20 subtraction in one minute.  We will work our way up to 30 in one minute. Reflex is great practice for this task. We will send them home weekly.  If your student does not show improvement in fluency, we will require a parent signature (which will be indicated on the top of the sheet).

 

Homework: May 20-24

 

Monday:   Spelling Sentences: Using the paper provided write at least 10 sentences. Try a few of each…statement, question and exclamation. Practice homophones in sentences using the correct context. This is how we will practice in class for Friday’s quiz. For example: The turtle dug a hole to lay her eggs. If the student writes whole I will mark it wrong because the correct homophone was not spelled.

 

Tuesday: Reading BookRecommendation Activity Sheet (coming home Tuesday).

Reflex Math – (20 Minutes).  Pack your Library Books for last book check out!

 

Wednesday:  Reflex Math – (20 Minutes) and Critical Thinking Sheet (coming home Tuesday).

 

Thursday:  Math: Regrouping Activity (coming home Wednesday).   Study for your spelling quiz on Friday. Do not forget how to practice the Homophones.
