Welcome to Fifth Grade

August 24, 2009

Dear Parents and Students,

We would like to welcome our new students for the 2009/2010 school year.

Students will have a better chance of having a successful year if they get into a routine that includes

good study habits and being responsible for their assignments.  The following is a list of behaviors that help maintain good grades.

  1. Copy assignments every day into the agenda.
  2. When an assignment has been completed, check it off.
  3. Have a parent sign the agenda.
  4. Study for tests.
  5. Ask for help when needed.
  6. Carry home and return all notes or test papers to be signed, and return them promptly.
  7. Complete class work, homework and projects on time.
  8. If absent, the student must make arrangements with the teacher to make up any missed test or assignment.

We ask parents to support their children and the teachers in the following ways:

  1. Please review and sign agendas.
  2. Check agendas for teacher communication, daily work schedule, incomplete assignments, dates of tests, behavior comments, along with other important events or communication between the parent and teacher.
  3. Notify the teacher as soon as you have any questions or concerns.
  4. Make sure your child adheres to the school dress code.  (pants must fit in the crotch and at the waist, belts are expected if the garment has belt loops, shorts are to be no shorter than the fingertips as the arms hang from the shoulders, shoes must be tied tightly for the safety of the student, no midriff showing when arms are raised).
  5. Provide ample time for the completion of homework.

If there are any questions or concerns, writing a note in the planner or attaching a note to the planner works well.  If we have not initialed receiving the note, you child may not have shown us their planner that day.  We can also be contacted by email as well as our message box.

We are excited about your child’s last year in elementary school and preparing them for middle school.
