We have been very busy in our class learning how to be readers, writers, math wizards and scientists.
In Reading we have enjoyed many books, I would have to say the children love our
Star Books best of all. I have read the following books, repeatedly, to your children, and they should be able to re-tell the story in sequence. The Three Billy Goats Gruff by Paul Galdone, Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, Corduroy by Don Freeman, our most recent book has been The Little Red Hen, a Golden Book. Our next Star Book will be The Gingerbread Man, which is always a favorite!
My class loves to write and we do it daily. Sometimes they write independently or we all write together. The first nine weeks we spent our time learning how to tell and write stories.
I have just begun to introduce the children to Functional Writing, which is writing in step order. It would be helpful if you could talk to your children when doing tasks that have an order to them, for instance, How To: brush your teeth, set the table, make a cake, etc.
Patterns Patterns Patterns, that has been the theme for math. The children can make a simple pattern, AB, AB, AB and more complicated patterns, ABB, ABB, ABB or AABB,AABB,AABB. You can reinforce this skill by using simple objects around your home and have your child show off their pattern talents. We are starting a new strand in math, Counting Ourselves and Others. The children need to recognize their numerals
0-20 and how to make sets to 20. Again, reinforcement of these standards would be beneficial.
