Welcome to Ms. Collins' MATH, SCIENCE, and SOCIAL STUDIES Website. This website will have links for extra practice, important class information and dates. Check out the website frequently for updated information and fun links about the topics we are learning in class!
FCAT COUNTDOWN BEGINS!!!
PARENTS,WE ARE WORKING HARD TO PREPARE FOR THE FCAT! SOME AREAS THAT STUDENTS ARE STILL STRUGGLING WITH IS NUMBER SENSE, AND MEASUREMENT. IF YOU ARE ABLE, PLEASE WORK WITH YOUR CHILD ON THESE SKILLS OR HAVE THEM PLAY SOME ONLINE MATH GAMES FOR PRACTICE. THE LINKS ON THIS PAGE INCLUDE THOSE TOPICS. NUMBER SENSE IS DECIDING WHEN TO ADD/SUBTRACT/MULTIPLY/DIVIDE, KNOWING HOW TO WRITE A NUMBER DIFFERENT WAYS,EX. 353,738 = THREE HUNDRED FIFTY THREE THOUSAND, SEVEN HUNDRED THIRTY EIGHT.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE HELP PLEASE LET ME KNOW. YOU CAN ALSO HAVE YOUR CHILD PRACTICE MEASURE ITEMS AT HOME WITH RULERS, METER STICKS, MEASURING TAPE ETC. ONE PROBLEM STUDENTS ARE STRUGGLING WITH IS MEASURING WHEN THE OBJECT, SUCH AS A STRING DOESN'T START ON "0". ON THE FCAT THEY WILL OFTEN HAVE A RULER WITH A PIECE OF STRING LAYING UNDERNEATH IT. THE PROBLEM IS THEY START THE PIECE OF STRING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RULER, STUDENTS NEED TO RECOGNIZE THIS AND NOT BEGIN COUNTING AT "0".
TUESDAYS- Every tuesday is our mulitplication test day. Please make sure your child has their multiplications facts memorized as this is a timed test. We are making flash cards each week for our multiplication test. I have a small group of students who have nearly completed their multiplication test, they will be working on division times test until the rest of the class has caught up.
FRIDAYS- Each friday we take our math4today test.
SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES- Test are given at the end of a unit or chapter.
HEALTH- Health lessons are once a week and cover topics such as responsibility, nutrition, self esteem, bullying, drug and alcohol awareness and more.
