Welcome Parents/Guardians

             I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone! My name is Mrs. Schermann and I am your child's 5th grade Math, Science, Social Studies and Health teacher.  I hope you and your child or children had a fun and relaxing summer. I really enjoyed my time off and I am looking forward to a fantastic year. I am excited to be teaching with a fantastic partner Mrs. Lammi.

Your child is entering the 5th grade this year and it is going to be an exciting experience. Developing a strong school--home connection is vital to your child's success. Therefore, I encourage open communication and active involvement. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to set up a conference or would like to communicate with me about the academic progress of your child. The school phone number is 696-8758 ext. 168. My email address is schermannc@duvalschools.org.  You can also contact my teaching partner at herreraf@duvalschools.org as we will always conference together.  Please do not request a Friday afternoon or Monday morning conference.  Unscheduled conferences will not be honored because preparation of the necessary documents is essential in order for the conference to be informative.

This year more academic, as well as personal responsibility will be placed on your child in order to prepare him/her for the middle school.  I hold high expectations of all of my students. I really want to get to know your child and I want to make him/her feel comfortable in the classroom. Throughout the year, your child will be working on many activities that will help him or her learn new concepts and skills.  Please take the time to review some of these activities and assignments with your child.  They will give you a lot of information about what your child is learning.  Also, please review your child’s planner daily.  It will contain homework assignments and notes from me when needed.  Please write any comments or questions you have for me in the planner as well.

There will be occasions when I could use help in the classroom.  If you plan to volunteer in or out of the classroom (making copies, preparation of activities etc) please let me know as soon as possible.  If you are not currently on the approved volunteer list and you wish to go on field trips in the future, please ask me for the application so that you will be cleared before we plan a trip.  I look forward to a great year with you and your child.
