About Mrs. Kirkland
I am very excited to be here at Thomas Jefferson Elementary. I have been teaching elementary school since December, 2005 and have taught both the third and fourth grades. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked in the insurance industry as a Long-term Care Insurance Specialist, providing training and support to insurance agents and financial advisors across Northeast Florida. My Bachelor's Degree is in Business Management, and I have a Master's In Education Supervision and Administration.
I live in the Argyle area with my husband and two sons, Matthew and William, who are in the fifth and fourth grades this year. I also have two older children, a son who graduated from the University of Central Florida (UCF) and is now working up in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter who also graduated from UCF and now lives and works in Orlando, Florida, and a new son-in-law as of August 11, 2012.
We have three dogs: a lab/great dane mix, Abby, who is 5 years old, and two lab mix puppies, Lucy and Pepper (Mint Patty). We rescued our cats, Shayna and Tucker, and have a small fish tank with glow fish in it. Matthew and William have a pet of their own, a cat named Midnight. We really have quite a zoo!!
My husband built a beautiful waterfall in our back yard that falls into a small pond full of goldfish. It is our own little tropical paradise, great preparation for our Luau theme this year!
Some of my favorite things to do include reading, camping, singing, going to the theater (especially musicals!), and spending time with my family. Little known fact: Before I started teaching elementary school, Mr. Kirkland and I taught ballroom dancing and competed professionally in the American smooth division!
