Mrs. Ross' Class
Mrs. Ross' Class
School will be closed on Wednesday November 25th, Thursday November 26th and Friday November 27th.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Welcome to our first grade website. Mrs. Zeal and I are looking forward to working with your child this year. Your interest and support will make this a good year for all of us.
Our resource classes include Library, Music, PE, Computer Lab, and Art. We will have Library every Wednesday this year. Please encourage your child to bring his or her library books back on Wednesday.
Our lunchtime has changed. It is now 11:55-12:25 this year. If you would like to eat lunch with your child please sign in at the office and wait for us in the hallway by the office. In order to protect all of the children at Sheffield it is important that all visitors sign in at the office when arriving at school.
We will also be having a snack. Please send one nutritious snack for your child each day. It would be helpful to have a “store” of class snacks for those children who forget to bring a snack. If you could send in pre-wrapped snacks (e.g. Little Debbie snacks, Fruit Snacks, juice pouches or boxes) for emergencies I know the children would appreciate it .
We appreciate your concern and interest in our class this year. If you have questions at any time please feel free to arrange a conference with us either by writing a note to us or with a call to the school office (696-8758 ext. 120). You can also send an e-mail to rossd3@duvalschools.org or zealc@duvalschools.org . We look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you for your support in making this a great year.

Reader's Workshop
Our first grade reading goal is for all first graders to be reading at Level I or higher by the end of the year. We will work on a new list of sight words each week. Here is our list for this week.
Beginning on Friday, October 30th our first graders will also need to know how to read AND spell these words.

Reader's Words for the year
First graders learn to read by reading. Our book goal is for each first grade to read one book at home for every day they are in school. That means our goal is 180 books by the end of April. Please list the books you read at home on the calendar pages in our Agenda. I'll record them at the end of each month. Please remember to include the books your child does each week as a Book Response.
Celebrated Readers
These students read 20 or more books at home, one for every school day, during the month of October.
