Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we come to the close of the 1st nine week period of the 2009-2010 school year please help students in all areas of their studies.  Parental involvement is the key to success!!!!!!!!!!
Below are our upcoming areas of study.

Science/Social Studies
Help prepare for the "end of the unit tests" by re-reading at home and by completing the guides at the end of each lesson/chapter.

Science: lessons are exploring static and current electricity as well as magnetism.
We will compare the two concepts and their connections during the second grading period.
Social Studies:  We will complete "Early Floridians" and move to "Arrivals From Other Continents" that shaped our state.
Math - We are finishing up with reviewing timetables from the third grade and your child should have mastered all timetables (40 problems in 40 mins.) up to the 12's with 100% accuracy (during the first 9-week period) and should be starting on the "40 problems in 2 minutes" cycle of timed timetable tests.
We are moving to a unit on Fractions and later to Data Collections.
As you probably observed instant recall is a "must" in order to be successful with multiplication and division of multi-digit numbers. Ask your child if he/she has all stickers on the timetable chart and, if not re-practice those tables not yet mastered (with 100% accuracy) every night to lay a good foundation for fractions / division.
Please keep practing timetables even when we have move to our next Math Unit.
We will keep practing our "Story Problems" Strategies: (Underline the information given, draw a picture of how it can be solved, prove it with a number sentence, and explain your thinking in words).

       Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to 2010, the close of our second nine week period, and the beginning of the Third Nine Week period.
Please visit http://focus.florida-achieves.com and view your child's current scores(your child's login and password is the same as for the fcat explorer) on this fcat prep site both in math and in reading.
All practice items in session 1 have been open since October and should be  completed by the middle of January at home and when we are in the computerlab.
As soon as these first practice items are completed the second round will be opened.

Timetables up to 12x12 should be completed (100% accuracy) on the 4 minute cycle and the 2 minute cycle for the third nine weeks should begin.
