Dear Parents,
I welcome you and your child to Room #8. I am Ms. Dismuke and I will be your child's 2nd grade teacher. I am looking forward to working with your child. Homework- is given on Monday through Thursday. No Homework on Friday. Please check your child agenda and weekly newsletters for homework assignments. Please over all work sent home in your child's folder. Discuss the work. Take time to notice the things your child does well or struggles with. Look for any notes or notices for you as well! Please read and respond promptly!
Reading -your child will have a reading test every Friday. The reading strategies that will be taught in 2nd grade are: Prediction/Infer/Evaluate, Questioning, Summarize and Monitor/Clarify. Read to your child everyday! (At least 15 minutes!)
The Munch of Million- Book counted will be those read independently and logged by students during work time at home. Your child will be responsible for total of 292 books this year in second grade. A chapter would equal 1 book. Here are the Munch a Million book schedule for 2nd grade.

Spelling- A spelling test is given every Friday. Please help your child study their spelling words by practicing with them on Thursday.
Writing- The students will write daily everyday. Our writing for this nine week is Narrative writing.
Language- Please go over language skills with your child. Sentence types and parts of the speech and ABC order are the basic skills for 2nd grade language arts.
Snacks- Please have your child bring in a snack everyday due to an early lunch time.
Class Supplies- We have a tight budget this year, I will be asking for donations for class supplies.
Birthdays-A special snack is always welcome! Please drop it off first thing in the morning.
Classroom Behavioral- Parents you will be notify of any behavioral problems through notes, phone call or teacher-parent conference.
Math- Your child will have a test during the learning schedule time.
Science- Remember your child will receive a letter grade in science.
Field Trips- All chaperones are welcome on all the field trips.
