• Welcome to a new school year at Hogan-Spring Glen Elementary School!

My name is Kathy Zeigler and I am your child's first grade teacher. This will be my 15th year of teaching, I think. Let's see... 3 years of public kindergarten, 1 year of private kindergarten,  6.5 years of public first grade, 2.5 years of public second grade, and 1 year of home-schooling my daughter in 5th grade. Last year, my colleagues voted me "Teacher of the Year" at our school. I'm still not exactly sure why, but it was an honor. I'm still learning, just like the children, and especially from them, every day!

I enjoy reading, gardening, baking, walking and clowning. I am a "Gator Clown" and attend community events, school functions, hospitals, nursing homes and also clown at my church. I was the "boss clown" for the church worship service at the end of national clown week this year. My clown name is "Honey B." My other characters are "Redwina" and "Dr. Rebecca G. Zundheit." You may see me "in face" at one of our night time celebrations.

I take my fun seriously and I take my work seriously. At school we can clown around a little but not all the time. Your children know the class rules and they are trying to behave so that we can focus on our learning. Our schedule is tight and we have a lot of ground to cover in order to be ready to succeed in second grade. You can help by:

-making sure your child gets plenty of rest and has a full tummy
     every morning
-getting your child to school on time
-checking homework and sending it back the next day
-looking at and signing the agenda every night
-rewarding good behavior, have consequences that count for
     poor behavior
-reading to your child for a minimum of 15 minutes every day and
logging all books you read to them or they read to you

This is the first time I have tried to create a "web page." Could be due to my "old age." In the future I hope to figure out how to attach helpful links and insert pictures of our class at work. If you'd like to help me figure it all out, "Come on Down!" as they say on The Price is Right.

    Ms. Zeigler
