- A HAPPY NEW DEVELOPMENT!
MRS. BLUME GOT MARRIED JUNE 20TH. HER NEW NAME IS MRS DEGRAM.
What a joy to work at such a dynamic school. We have a wonderful principal, Mrs. Brown. Her leadership is helping me to expand my skills to incorporate science into the art program. Can you get excited about seeing our ELA manatee cadets soar to a new level of success?
As the year progresses, I will let you know what is happening in art and how it is enriching student acheivement. We will be painting and can use donations of bottles of dishwashing soap.
With Manatee Love,
Ina DeGram
September 2009 Art program update
What's happening in Art?
Students are becoming "Artists/Scientists"
Children are getting a chance to experiment with art materials and share discoveries.
Kindergarten students are discovering all the different materials and tools that can use as artists to create a triangle. This includes things like pencil, markers, oil pastels, sticks, different kinds and sizes of brushes, sponge brushes, q-tips etc.
First graders are experimenting with brown paint and a bristol brush to discover all the different effects they can create, including dry brushing. They are sharing their discoveries with each other.
Second graders are learning all about color. They are making their own color wheels. They are getting
to see a first hand demonstration of how white light contains all the colors of the rainbow.
Third Graders have created manatees in space outfits to go with our school theme. They got to experiment with a variety of materials, including different colors of glitter paint. They designed various equipment that got attached to the manatee to help them breathe and move through space.
Fourth graders are discovering how an ordinary pencil and star shapes can be used to create a feeling of depth in a picture. They are using a kneaded eraser to help create different tones of the graphite.
5th graders are drawing their own shoe, observing all the details that make the shoe functional and looking carefully at the shadows and how to shade it to make it look real.
