Mrs. Overman's Art Class
Welcome Artists and Families of Artists!
Welcome ARTISTS!
1. I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you this semester as we begin our journey of exploring 2-D artwork, styles, techniques, vocabulary and famous 2-D artists!
2. We're pairing up classes with Ms. Cash's Spanish Class! In the past two years, Ms. Cash has been bringing her classes in with our artists to do a Spanish/ Visual Art Project. This year,
Ms. Cash will be returning with her students and we'll be doing at least two combined units in a semester. All student artists will be able to gain knowledge on a Spanish artist and their styles and techniques!
3. Reflection Journals! Lakeshore is strongly focusing on writing (as always) and to help support writing in ALL content areas, each artist will be working on a Reflection Journal that will help to round out their experience on select assignments. This journal will also contain some creative writing and a collection of small drawings, examples of techniques learned and worksheets.
Students are expected to bring specific materials with them every time they come to class:
Pencil with an eraser
3 prong folder
colored pencils
markers
ruler
ULTRA FINE POINT Sharpie (black)
While I do provide students with a class collection of colored pencils and markers, I ask that students have their own set since there's no guarantee that all the same colors will be available for every class.
Here's a break down of our class period:
Opening: Warm-Up - IB Discussion Question(s) - "How can an artist help the environment?"
Mini- Lesson: Each student is creating a Earth Day Poster to submit for a contest. Earth Day is April 22nd so we're reviewing ways to go GREEN! So far, the designs are AMAZING! Reflections will be given to each student to add to their Studio Folders
Work Period: Each student is working on their poster design. Students will continue to show knowledge of blending and fading their colors
Closing: Brief review/ exit slip and clean-up
