Welcome to Mr. Stuart's Class

A Letter to Parents & Students:

The focus of the Language Arts program at Frank H. Peterson this year will be on the further improvement of both reading and comprehension skills, as well as an improvement in writing and composition.  The objective for this class will be to take student potential and utilize it in meeting and exceeding current academic standards set by the Duval County Public School System.  I am confident that through some work on the part of the students and parents, as well as myself, this year will prove to be one of great academic achievement and enlightenment.

To the parents:  None of this is possible without your cooperation in motivating the students to consistently participate and push themselves toward a higher level of understanding and achievement.  I believe that open communication between teacher and parents will prove to be essential in obtaining the common goal of educating these students and helping them to achieve the highest intellectual level of which they are capable. It is for this reason that I have put into place a few safeguards to keep you informed about both in-class assignments and homework assignments as they are assigned throughout the year.  We are living in the time of technology and it would be foolish to ignore the potential academic benefits that this technology offers.  With this in mind, I have established an online resource through new.schoolnotes.com, where I will post daily agendas and assignments, a list of graded assignments for each grading period, and a brief summary of each day’s lecture & classwork.  In addition to the website, I ask that all parents take advantage of the benefits of e-mail.  There is only a limited amount of time each day that I am in my classroom and available to receive your messages and return your calls. However, I am able to access my e-mail from any computer with an internet connection at any time.  I am more than happy to reply to e-mails in the evenings and on weekends from home.  I encourage you to e-mail me regularly to receive academic and behavior updates throughout the year.

To the students: I ask only two things of you.  First, I ask that you be open minded.  Over the course of the first semester, you will find that while many of the activities and lessons will be intriguing and entertaining, they will also challenge you.  Unfortunately, learning something new is not always the easiest of tasks.  However, learning can and will be both interesting and fun if you are open to the experience.  Secondly, I ask that you take pride in yourself and in your achievements.  Your work should be a reflection of you and your capabilities.  Don’t be afraid to give your all with everything you do in this class.  When you try and fail, you learn how to succeed.  When you fail to try, you succeed in nothing.

With that said, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all the new students and parents. I look forward to having a wonderful year and trust that it will be a great experience for everyone involved.

Sincerely,

Scott C. Stuart
