I am excited about the opportunity to get to know you and your child during the coming months and looking forward to a productive and pleasant school year.

I am looking forward to being your child's teacher at duPont Middle this year and hopefully by working closely together we will see significant growth. CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

Classroom Rules:

1. Follow directions the first time given.

2. Bring all required materials to class (pencil, paper, planner, text book, ID, notebook, etc.)

3. Keep negative comments to yourself.

4. Sit only in your assigned seat.

5. If it’s not allowed at school, it’s not allowed in Ms. Hugo’s room (gum, food, drinks, bookbags, cell  phones, inappropriate dress, tardies, etc.)

6. HAVE SOME FUN!

Please have all necessary supplies in class by Monday, August 31, 2009. We will be preparing our notebooks, working with subject are vocabulary, technology and using reading strategies during the first week of school. Please bring all your necessary supplies to school as soon as possible.

 

Notebook:

Every student is required to keep an organized notebook. This notebook will be collected periodically and will be graded each nine week period. A table of contents sheet will be used to organize your notebook. Refer to the classroom assignment sheet on the chart to help keep your notebook organized.

 

Make-up Work:

1. All classwork is due the period it is assigned, unless you are told otherwise.

2.  If you are absent, your assignments will be placed in your assigned folder.  You will have one day for each day absent to complete your make-up work.
3. Special projects will be assigned periodically and will be accompanied by a special projects information sheet, giving guidelines and due date.


Late work:

1.  You will be given two special “Hugo Forgives” passes each nine weeks. This “Hugo Forgives” pass may be attached to a late homework assignment, which will then be graded as if received on time.

2.  Unused “Hugo Forgives” passes can be redeemed for a special treat at the end of each nine week grading period.

Classroom Checking System:

1.  Bellwork will be checked on a random basis.

2.   Homework will be scanned and stamped when students enter the classroom. These stamps will count for points towards the homework average.

3.  All other assignments will be graded using rubrics and mastery of objectives. These grades will be used to determine your overall average.

When you enter the classroom there is not time to waste. Begin the bellwork immediately, as it will be collected five minutes after the period begins.  Learning log entries, using writing prompts, will also be given and stored in the journal section of your notebook.

 

Remember: Organization + Hard Work = SUCCESS
