Welcome to AP World History at Paxon School for Advanced Studies!

AP World History covers the whole of recorded human history, from the Neolithic Revolution in 8000 BCE to the election of Barack Obama in 2008 CE.  Aside from the challenge of covering over 10,000 years of history, APWH teaches students about AP essay writing, specifically dealing with Comparative Essays, Change-and-Continuity-over-Time, and Document Based Questions (DBQ).  Mr. Hoffman's teaching approach is to present history as a dynamic, drama-filled story, complete with as many pictures he can find.  History is filled with treachery, violence, love, and touching moments of sympathy.

My name is Leonard Hoffman.  I have  been teaching at Paxon since November 2007.   I love APWH because of the breadth of the material, as well as the opportunity to teach about the history of areas beyond the more tradition American or European history.  Furthermore, I love teaching freshmen as they come to Paxon open and ready to learn,  My prior teaching experience includes being a substitute in Duval County and a Graduate Instructor at Florida State University.  At FSU I taught Multicultural Film, an engaging class looking at American film through the lenses of race, class, gender, and sexuality.  I have been blessed with some amazing educational experiences - first at Ormond Beach Middle, then at the International Baccalaureate Program at Spruce Creek High in Port Orange, FL.  I completed my AA at UNF in Jacksonville, my BA in History at FSU, and my MA in Humanities at FSU.
