Assignments

Class WorkStudents will explore a new medium and a variety of techniques each quarter.  One sculptural project will be created, refined in class, and finished by the end of every grading period.  We will also cover art vocabulary, which includes elements of art and principles of design, and specific process terminology.

Home Work - This will typically be either four quality drawings in the sketchbook, reference photos, or gathering certain materials for a project.

Vocabulary TestStudents will be exposed to art vocabulary on a daily basis.  One test will be given each quarter with ample time for preparation.  All vocabulary can be found on this website under Handouts.

In / Out of House Art Experience - One of each art experience is required every marking period.  (In House Credit) Students must attend each Gallery Opening held after school at DA.  There will be no after school help sessions on Gallery Opening dates.  All students are required to leave at 3:25pm and then return with their parent between 5:30pm - 7:30pm.  (Out of House Credit) Students must visit a visual art gallery or attend an event that relates to the visual fine arts, i.e. installations or performance works that are sculptural are acceptable.  An Out of House Worksheet must be completed and proof of attendance is required, i.e. ticket stub or pamphlet with a signature of an adult sponsoring the venue is acceptable.

Participation

Attendance - It is crucial that students attend every class session.  It is expected that the class work / time be immediately recovered if the student should be absent due to illness, family emergency, special school activity, or disciplinary action.  The student may either take their art project home over the weekend and / or attend an after school safety net session.

Open Studio Hour is an after school safety net session available to all sculpture students.  This is typically every Tuesday from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM.  In order to promote a safe learning environment, these sessions are treated like a normal class period.  Attendance will be taken and students will remain in the classroom under direct supervision of a teacher the entire time.  A hall pass will be issued if they need to visit the restroom or locker.  If a student needs to leave early, I request that the parent come to classroom #35 to verify the early dismissal.

Dress Code and Shoes - Safety is my first concern!  In addition to the school dress code, students should not wear loose clothing or jewelry that may interfere with the safe operation of tools.  Also, it is mandatory to wear shoes with good traction and completely cover the entire foot!  Students have the option of leaving a pair of old shoes in their assigned cubby, if they tend to wear inappropriate footwear.

Sketchbooks and Materials - PARENTSplease help your child to succeed by making sure that they have all required art supplies, properly dressed, and sketchbook each class meeting.
