Experimental/Expressive section of the portfolio

In the fourth quarter students will be required to complete a photographic narrative using alternative processes presented in a creative journal format.

Students will be asked to explore a non-traditional technique or alternative process to the photographic image. Teacher/student will develop a plan for this section. This 8-piece section is due at the end of the last quarter.

Activity: Experimental Narrative

  Students will create 8 piece narrative section to include in their portfolio. Select one of the following processes: pinhole, Kodalith and solarization, infrared, slide film and Polaroid transfer, digital collage and cyanotype. (Straight color photography not acceptable in this section).  The chosen techniques should include interpretive expressions based on a theme. Teacher/student will develop a plan for this section. Complete at least 6 pieces of work for this section.

  Complete last portion of Inspiration Book (a inspirational narrative (8 images need to be included)

Exam: The exam grade will be determined by the senior show. Students who are photo majors and have work accepted into the show will earn an A for the exam.  If they failed to get work in the show they will receive an F for the exam. Non-photo majors’ exam grade will be an assessment based on the 34-piece portfolio grade

Concentration section:
Students will devote considerable time, effort, and thought to an investigation of a specific visual idea. To document the process students should present a number of conceptually related works that show growth and discovery. These works should use the principles of design in an informed and experimental way; Students must define their concentration early in the year and formulate an artist statement in order to have focus and direction. 12 pieces of art are due  on April 20. The artist statement completed on May 2
