The purpose of HOPE is to combine a health education component with a physical education activity.  The intent of HOPE is that the student will consider using a physical activity when encountering a health issue.

 

In HOPE we will:

 

Match fitness with health components                 Address emotional & mental health issues

Discuss body functioning                                    Discuss stress & money mang.

Discuss wellness & decision making                   Learn effective communication skills

Discuss nutrition & safety & injury prevention       Discuss disease recognition & prevention

Assess individual fitness & wellness                    Discuss ATOD (alcohol, tobacco, other drugs)

Use reliable health info sources                           Address healthy sexual behaviors

Use technology with fitness

 

Parents not wanting their student to participate in Sex education will be able to exempt their student from this instruction.  Written permission must be returned to watch videos beyond rated G.

 

This course will involve a period of classroom health instruction followed by physical activity.  This requires dressing out for physical activities. Almost All school supplies will be provided (execpt: 1/2 inch Binder, and must dress out for physical activity).

 

Grade determination:      Health Component = 50%     Physical Education Component = 50% 
                                                    Quizes  = 10%                             Dressing Out   = 20%
                                                    Project  = 20%                             Participation    = 15%
                                                Unit Tests = 15%                         Skill Evaluations   = 15%
                                                Homework =  5%
