HOMEWORK:

Generally I try to not send homework.  However, your child may bring a slip of paper for fluency or comprehension if reading using phonics or a book for every 5 words learned with PCI Reading.  Please help your child then sign and return the form to school.

Reading should take place 15-20 minutes nightly and may be considered a standing nightly homework assignment.

Students who are capable of phonics reading on an upper first grade level or higher should be reading material on their functioning reading level.  Comprehension is generally not the best with independent reading and some support will likely be needed.

Students who are learning sight words, the PCI Reading or Edmark program, would benefit from being read to with comprehension questions asked during the reading.  Any book that holds interest and the child comprehends is appropriate.

Each book read or being read, needs to have a book report form filled out and turned in to recieve credit toward the 25 book party at the end of the school year.  Go to the book report link for the form and click.  Highlight the two forms, click print, click selected, then click print. Two forms should print on one sheet.
