We have another very busy week coming up! 

Special Events:
Tuesday:  Ronald McDonald will visit CTE!
Thursday:  First Grade Awards:  We will give awards for E citizenship, perfect attendance, meeting the book goal, and homework. 
Friday:  CTE Western Carnival  5-9 o'clock

I am asking again for your help.  We desperately need help for Friday night.  Please volunteer to work a 30 minute block for that night.  We will have the Pin the Tail on the Mustang booth.

This weeks academic plans include:

Reading-  We will continue with comprehension strategies.  So far, we have discussed and practiced prediction, summarizing, inferring and making connections as strategies to help us understand what we read.  This week, we will introduce questioning.  As a strong reader reads, they are always asking themselves questions.  We will use sticky notes to track our questions in a book as we read.
Writing-  We will finish up narrative writing this week.  I am very impressed with the writing of these first graders!!  This week will be used to revise and edit a favorite piece of work to be published!!  The children love to publish!!  We even have a publishing cheer we do now!  Ask your child how it goes!
Math-We will continue to work on addition and subtraction story problems. 
Science-  We will be discussing stars.  We will be observing the sky and recording our observations.

Spelling-  We will begin spelling this week.  Your child's spelling list will be in the agenda.  We will begin with r blends and short i.   I will give the children 10 words with this pattern.  I will give them a pre-test Monday.  The words they get wrong will stay on their list.  For each word they get right, they will get to pick a new word to put in its place.  This will allow children to work at their own level.  Please make sure your child studies their spelling words.  There will be a test on Friday.  These grades will effect the Reading grade on the report card.
