Solo and Ensemble

Music Performance Assessment

February 12 & 13 at Landmark Middle School

The Performance

Each student will be assigned a 20 minute time slot.
If you need a morning or afternoon time,
you may request that to accomodate scheduling conflicts.
Once students have performed and received thier rating they are free to go.
The students will perform in front of a  band director from outside our district.
The performances will take place in a regular classroom with a piano.
Only the judge, parents and a few freinds will be in the room
I have a few pianists that work well with middle school students.
They usually charge between $20.00 and $25.00 for 2 rehearsals and the performance.
Students must have a piano accompanist for the performance
.

The Music

The students had the opportunity to purchase from Music Time Nov 23
Most song are between $2.00 and $5.00
If they missed thisa opportunity, I have s few songs they may choose from in the library.
All songs must be on the approved list of literature.
You can find the entire list at flmusiced.org
(look under solo grade 1 for your instrument)

Once the student has selected the piece, they should number every measure in the solo part and the piano part.
They should make a photo copy of the solo part so they keep a clean copy to give to the judge at the performance

The Assessment

The students are being rated on correct notes and rhythms, tone quality and technique,
posture and hand position, artistic interpretation and articulation
The ratings are:
Superior
Excellent
Good
Fair
Poor
Superior ratings earn medals to be worn on your band uniform until you graduate high school
