Welcome to Agriscience and Animal Biotechnology!

 

Agriscience is the application of scientific methods and principles to agriculture.  It is a fast growing field with many career opportunities available.  In addition the information presented in this class will give students a basis to understand many of the issues arising in our times involving the use of biotechnology and the associated cost/benefit ratio.  This course counts as a science credit but will NOT replace Biology.

The following classroom rules will assist students in achieving the above guidelines and will enable the classroom to run smoothly and academically.

 

 

 

Procedures

 

  1. Arrive on time with all materials
  2. Respect the teacher, classmates and classroom environment at all times.
  3. Work during all work times
  4. Follow directions

Students who are prepared will be better able to achieve success.

  3. A binder with pockets and an organized system to keep papers
  4. Lined paper
  5. Pens and sharpened pencils
  6. Index Cards

  8. Scientific Calculator
  9. Tissues, Hand soap and/or hand sanitizer would be greatly appreciated    

 

 

 

Assessment/Grading: The grading scale is A: 100-90, B: 89-80, C: 79-70, D: 69-60, F: 59-0. Grades will be distributed in approximately the following manner but are subject to change.

 

                Assessments / Tests: 65%

 

                Labs: 20%

 

                Class work/Homework/Vocabulary exercises: 15%

 

 

 

All exams may be retaken in an attempt to achieve a higher score. However, certain protocols will be followed in order to give students the retake opportunity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Learning Recovery Procedures

 

In order for a student to be eligible for the Learning Recovery Program at the end of a quarter, a student:

 

  1. Must have a completed a minimum of 75% of the class assignment for the nine weeks,
  2. Must have taken advantage of available learning recovery options during the nine weeks, and
  3. Must have a parent or guardian participate in a required parent/teacher conference, phone conference, email conference, or learning recovery orientation at their school to review the expectations and timelines of learning recovery.

 

Classroom Procedures

 

In order to maximize classroom learning and minimize disruptions, the following routines will be carried out during class.

 

Start on Time

 

  1. Take out class materials and place on desk
  2. Return to seat and begin opening activity.
  3. Place ALL purses and book bags under the desk.
  4. Place tardy slip on the teachers desk

 

Late Routine

 

 

 

Leaving Class

 

  1. May leave only during individual work time or cooperative activities for bathroom emergency.
  2. Students will not be able to leave during the first or last 15 minutes of class or last 30 minutes of the school day.
  3. Students must sign out in the sign-out log.
  4. Only one student out on the pass at a time.
  5. Look at the classroom calendar for missed assignments or check the website
  6. Place assignments in Absent-Assignment Turn-In Box; clearly label with period, assignment title, and write “ABSENT” on (date) in letters on the top.
  7. For each day that you are absent you have the same number of days to turn in any make up assignments or they will be counted as late.
  8. Assignments will NOT be accepted late for full credit.
  9. Students will organize work areas and clean up materials off floor and desk.
  10. Assignments will be placed in Assignment Turn-in Area.
  11. Students will return to seats until the bell rings
  12. The teacher will verify that wrap-up tasks were completed
  13. Teacher gives verbal/non-verbal signal to dismiss
  14. Students must remain seated until dismissed
  15. Students file out orderly and calmly after the teacher opens the door.

Note

 

The class room has a variety of hand on educational tools including classroom pets. Pets have been carefully selected for temperament, size, and educational value. Pets are quarantined for the safety of all students depending on the length of time suggested by the AZA. At no time are any animals to be brought in to the classroom that have not been approved by the teacher FIRST. Please call the correct authorities for any animal or animals that have been found and believed to be injured and or lost/ missing.
